Gary Collier Blog Modern McCarthyism
My Viewpoints

The Choice Is Yours

I have just forcefully joined the contrived “anti-vaxxer” club. I have been officially labelled. Somewhat in the same manner that liberal minded Americans were labelled as Communists in the McCarthy days back in the 1950s. How easy is it to be maligned, to be made a scapegoat for untoward things that are happening in and to our society.

Once again it’s one of those situations where a problem had to be solved and the first solution created another problem which needed a new solution which then went on to create another problem and on and on until society was buried and the original problem was lost in a haze of justifications and lies.

I have chosen my allies but overall we (my group) are more like pacifists who don’t want to actively get too involved in the fighting. We want to understand what is happening, to break it down into its parts, to improve our knowledge based on observation and questions that we ask ourselves. I am willing to look at any viewpoint that could shed some new light on the current conundrum. I have also chosen to align with the people who I trust and who I believe can bring some logic and reason to the table. This may change as time goes on, but that’s OK because life is fluid and there is no way that old morals and habits continue to apply to an ever changing story. For example, when I was young being left wing was a badge of honour as far as I was concerned. I even believed that was still the case until my eyes opened recently to the fact that “left wing” has been re-defined by somebody for unknown reasons to become so extreme and “woke” that it would be embarrassing to me to be associated with it. This new reality is so far from where I am currently at. I haven’t changed that much or maybe I have and I’m not aware. What has changed is that the so called left wing media has been captured by people who insist on holding an extreme and stuck viewpoint that leaves logic out of the equation. One size fits all!. I hate that philosophy. It cannot work. Just look at communism.

Every situation has to be viewed and assessed based on the circumstances surrounding it.

I have to remember that I am in the minority, even though I surround myself with like minded people so it doesn’t seem that way. I must expose myself to the viewpoints of the majority who I am convinced are caught up in a web of illogic and group think but based on my personal definition of reality I could be wrong.

What is wrong or right anyway?

These conclusions can only be viewed from one’s own moral and ethical values, willingness to observe “what is” and based on the knowledge and information that is available and the quality of it. Fact checking is essential and opinionated rants are the opiates that I have to stay away from. They are so addictive because in many ways other peoples opinions that align with our own just act to make us feel more righteous.

The other thing that I must always keep in mind is that for most people what is happening is normal. All they want is an uncomplicated life where they don’t have to get too involved. If they have to give up some of their own freedom or privacy or civil rights then that’s a  worthwhile compromise, a good swap. This mechanism seems to be hard wired and inbuilt into the human species. Controversy and the truth just gets in the way of the next dinner party or shopping expedition.

The Matrix is just a place that we can withdraw to to get away from the harsh realities of conflict and social self discipline, a place where we can live our lives in peace and leave the big decisions up to “politicians, big business and tech conglomerates” who must know better than we do!

Or so the majority have been led to believe.
