The Dispossessed
I’m beginning to feel like one of Earth’s Dispossessed. I’m beginning to feel that I will soon be forcefully deprived of my freedom of movement and thought. I have been forced to take sides in a battle that I never agreed to be part of. A battle of ideology, one against conformity and tacit agreement.
General consensus has a power that is tangible, whether that consensus is right or wrong, workable or unworkable. I have seen this so many times throughout my life both objectively as well as subjectively. It is time for great care and a wariness of all external viewpoints, no matter how enticing they may seem. It is time to apply the principle of “what is true is that which is true for you”. My responsibility to myself and my immediate group is to carefully sift through the available information and research and come to my own informed decisions about the conclusions that I make, my relationship to society and how I move forward with my life.
I do not urgently need certain social activities like going to restaurants, plays, museums, travel and such. There are ample activities to apply my time and effort to. I need a certain amount of social interaction and companionship, I need food, I need music and a certain amount of entertainment, I need beauty, I need access to my tools of communication, I need a small amount of money, I need knowledge and access to information and research and most importantly I need my freedom to choose my own direction. I can have all of those things.
History has shown me that the human species, no matter how miraculous it is, can be alloyed by its application of illogic. Group think is rampant as a rule. Cognitive dissonance is generally the order of the day. People can be influenced by “noble lies” that turn out to be not so noble and that serve the purposes of a minority of people who are striving for power and riches. It is so easy to control and imprison people with ideas and catch cries, headlines and the potential fear of harm and insecurity. Peer group pressure does the rest.
It is now time for me to choose my own truth and to be willing to stand up for my own integrity.
