I Have Won My Battle With Cancer
For now I am cancer free.
I’m taking a big win on that outcome. I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the huge battle that I fought. More than 230 days of hard, bone grinding but rewarding work, and still counting. Almost every day – study, research, driving, biopsies, consultations, keto diet, oxygen therapy, exercise, IVs, supplements, sauna, hot and cold therapy, radiotherapy and much more.
I spent a lot of money. I’m not certain how much but I reckon it is more than $60,000, maybe up to $80,000. I haven’t counted. The money came magically as I needed it.
I secretly expected a positive outcome but I wanted to keep my optimism to myself until I had certainty that all of the hard work had paid off. I maintained an outwardly positive attitude and did not look for any sympathy (oh well, maybe a little).
My efforts have paid off.
Every cent spent, every minute that passed, every skirmish against “the enemy” has been worth it. The gift of life is priceless. The gift of health is worth more than its weight in gold. The gift of a future (really just existence) unhindered by illness is sparkling and shining with hope.
I’m not going to stop. I am now moving into the maintenance phase which in itself will more than likely need more tweaking than when I had cancer.
Cancer is now part of my life. It will be lurking around and working on its own strategies to survive and proliferate. My job is to see that it doesn’t breach the walls.
I don’t want to have my too much of my attention on it but I also need to have a healthy respect for the fact that it is potentially minutely skulking in my body. My job is to create an environment that is hostile to cancer cells and their ability to proliferate whilst enhancing my own health at the same time.
I have compared the “journey” from cancer diagnosis (November 2020) to the successful and positive PET Scan (July 2021) to a military campaign. I was a pretty good General and made all the correct moves against the enemy with minimal loss of life and bloodshed. Now I have the job of occupying the ground that I have won back.
So now the time has come to formulate and formalize my plan for the “occupation”. In some ways this will be as important as the battle. The potential prize will be another 30 years of good quality life (in this body) in which I can achieve so much – learning, communicating, sharing, creating, exploring, inspiring and being inspired.
That sounds pretty damn good to me.
The main points will be eating the right food at the right time, creating an environment to have a good night of sleep as much as is humanly possible, exercising, creating and building the strength and fitness of my body, researching and learning about the latest discoveries, technology, health data and of course … critical thinking. I will never allow myself to get stuck on anything as there is always other potential data that may be uncovered and applied. I will always remain open and willing to change if needed.
Knowledge is power.
Certainty is the enemy of change.
Surprisingly, the outcome of my travail has been far, far more positive than negative. I am in an immensely better place mentally, physically and spiritually than I have been, possibly anytime in my existence. I have grown in all areas of my life and have unhindered potential for future expansion. I am embracing the power of simplicity and a lack of complexity.
I have adopted a far more pragmatic approach to life. Yes, reward and pleasure are important but as an example … food is fuel and has a simple purpose. Part of that purpose is pleasure but the main function is to supply energy and the potential to keep my body working well on a cellular level and to repair itself. My body is a result of millions of years of evolutionary growth and tweaking and knows inherently how to look after itself if it is treated with love and respect. Any vehicle needs affection and care.
I have become far more inquisitive. I don’t need to know everything but I do need to delve into those areas that have an impact on my life, activities and interaction with others. I am not interested in being told what to think by anyone else and will rely on the fruits of my own observation. At the same time I am not denying that I can be influenced by the viewpoints of others. My brain is working more efficiently and I am mentally more astute.
I am far more aware of my own consciousness. My own awareness. In some ways I have realized that I just have to accept whatever that is. The truth may be so simple that it evades me. But I am me and that is the simplicity and the power of my existence. Magic is everywhere, all I need to do is to keep an eye on it when it happens. It may be fleeting and I don’t have to grab it or try to own it. All I need to do is to observe and acknowledge and be grateful.
I do know that I exist. I do know that it is perpetually what I will call “present time”. I do know that I have the freedom and ability to create and that my destiny is up to me. The future is just a concept. It will always be the present, simply existence in a place or thing or whatever.
I am willing to “not know” and I am willing to “know”. That last sentence is quite significant because I have spent a lot of my life struggling against and being fearful of “not knowing”.
So there. I take ownership of this “obstacle” that I have now overcome and acknowledge that it has given me the opportunity to improve and enhance my life and existence and my relationship to the world around me.
It feels so good.
