You know when you set off on a long journey?

We’ve Made It To Yass, December 2019
The first 100-200kms seem to take forever. For me they are always the most arduous.
I’m comparing our journey towards health and happiness to a road trip up the Hume Highway from Melbourne to Sydney. Once I get to Holbrook (about halfway) I actually feel like the scales have balanced out and the rest of the trip is “downhill”.
The good news is that “Georgie and I have arrived in Yass” on our weight loss oddysey with the accompanying feeling that the current leg of the journey is getting closer to culminating in happiness and glory. Yass always seems to signifies that we have almost reached our destination.
We sort of started our trip to health in February of 2019 when we went to India.
I had compeletely stopped drinking alcohol around this time. Georgie had also cut way back but still has the occassional champagne. We started walking quite a bit, cut out bread to a large degree and a few other basic things to start the ball rolling. That got us to the outskirts of Melbourne (figuratively speaking).
When we got back to Melbourne (from India) Georgie started watching YouTube clips on bio-hacking (which I initially poo-pooed) but I slowly morphed into watching as well.
So it’s been a “comfortable, medium paced” drive up to Albury” and through to Yass…..
What I’m going on about probably sounds esoteric and crazy but the reality is that once you have lost a substantial amount of weight and you feel twice as vibrant as you did when you started you are well on your way and the rest of the journey looks pretty easy and the goal of health, happiness and longevity looks quite attainable. Getting going, beginning, going through the initial drag of changing everything and feeling like you are giving up so much is the hardest part. It’s so easy to put it off and the days sometimes seem to drag on. Because we were prepared and probably didn’t really even consciously “begin” we just started moving forward, it has seemed relatively easy and now that we are seeing huge results it’s been worth every iota of energy, learning, fasting, eating no sugar and hardly any carbohydrates, going a bit hungry sometimes.
Georgie has lost over 20 kg and I’ve lost about 15 kg. All without too much effort and we still have some more road to travel on our “journey”.
