Amnesia and Re-Incarnation

I’ve spent a lot of time speculating about the concept of reincarnation throughout my life and sometimes I get glimpses of what might be memories of other lifetimes that I may have lived.

But the one thing that has always baffled me is the simple reality that if we do move into a new body each time our earlier lifetime ends why in the name of god do we forget everything!

The following is just simple speculation, theory, maybes…..

Let’s look at mankind. One of the big issues that have dictated the history of civilisation is ownership. Most wars happen because someone wants to own something that someone else already owns. People kill to own things, they lie, they even give up their sense of compassion for humanity. I suppose that may have been one of the issues that Karl Marx was addressing.

Well, after a lifetime of grappling with concepts pertaining to life, death, infinity and generally where have we come from and where are we going I’m starting to have some sense of clarity that makes sense to me.

My viewpoint is that it is totally fine to own things. In actual fact, I love having things that I can use to create things with and also to surround myself with items that I consider are beautiful.

Really, when you look at it in a very simplistic fashion you can own a beautiful sunset.

This is easy because usually you can just as easily let it go. Just imagine trying to lock it up and hold onto it, put a value on it and to not be willing to share it with anyone else.

I think the trick is to be able to let things go. It’s perfectly OK to have things but the feeling of loss associated with losing something …. it may be your lover, your home, your parents, your money, your favourite guitar ….. that feeling can evoke pain. Both physical and emotion.

I’ll not go into that a lot more right now. Maybe at some later point. I’m sort of writing as I think this through.

OK …. here’s my theory.

Just imagine if there was no memory loss between lifetimes. Just imagine if you could remember everything, everyone and all the possessions that you had owned in every lifetime you ever lived! I’ve never entered this into my equation before.

What if you remembered everything? Would you be tempted to try to claim the property that you might possibly feel still belongs to you although it was inherited by someone else or what about that beautiful 1936 Gibson acoustic that you simply adored playing.

How many wars, how many fights, how much pain?

Maybe amnesia is what allows us to live each lifetime as it comes up and maybe when we do leave our current body that amnesia dissipates for the between life period when the physical universe and all the pleasure and pain that is attached to it are not relevant. Maybe it’s a safety mechanism that simply lets us start each new lifetime/incarnation with an apparent clean slate.
