Hi, my name is Gary Collier. I was born on February 5th, 1952.
My greatest pleasures in life are communication, creation and inspiration ….. this takes in a lot of life.
When I get inspired it’s like my spark plugs fire up and the engine goes out of control. Ideas started cascading like water falling from a precipice 150 metres up. I almost drown but the ideas falling on me are quite pleasant and exhilarating so it is a damn good trade off.
There are so many things that I’m itching to create just under the surface so when they bubble up it’s a bit like a big pot of water boiling over. I’ve just got to turn the heat down enough to contain what’s there so it doesn’t explode all over the place. I have to practise the discipline of being mindful and in control so I actually accomplish my goals.
This isn’t a nightmare for me even though it might sound a bit like it is. For me it’s exhilarating.
What I just realized is that the one supreme love I have is to communicate and create, and I love beauty. Almost everything that I do in each waking moment aimed toward communicating, creation and the pursuit of beauty, but I’ve built a big dam and I don’t allow things to flow as freely as they could. I have a tendency to hold onto them.
Maybe it’s because I don’t think my “creations” are refined enough or maybe it’s just that I feel too vulnerable to share them with others.
So, it’s now time to de-construct the dam wall and let them loose.
When I went out walking tonight I got all fired up and one thing stood out way above anything else.
I have a f…ing great life and I’m very, very lucky. Even though I’m 68 I always feel that I am on the precipice of something new. It almost feels like life is just beginning for me but really it’s as simple as this ….. I’m spending more and more time in the present. The past is gone and the future will be determined by what I do in the present.
My life is pretty wonderful. My wife, Georgie and I have been together for 25 years and I love her madly, we still have lots to talk about and do together. She’s been an amazingly positive influence on my life. We are different in so many ways but somehow this works just beautifully. We live in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges on three-quarters of an acre in a house that has pretty much everything that I could possibly want. We’ve really put our stamp on it and created a gallery-like space that reflects our personalities and our sense of aesthetics. I have a great kitchen to cook in, a music studio and office that is wonderful pragmatic …. it’s my private space where I can write, listen to music and play it when I feel like it. We are surrounded by art. We’ve created lots of spaces outside that we can visit when we want to feel like we are somewhere else. Lots of space, lots of trees, speakers in every room to listen to music. We’ve also got a house in Bali that we are currently renovating and turning into our tropical paradise.
I’ve had 3 children over the past 40 years. My son Paul passed away in 2012, that’s a story unto itself and as horrible as it is to lose a son I have learned and grown from that horrible loss. My daughter Allissa is a wonderful daughter and friend and in many ways a mentor to me. From my perspective we have a fabulous relationship. Our goals and purposes are aligned in many ways. And then there’s the baby of the gang, Finn, who is now 20. Finn was born just after I turned 48. I’m pleased to say that I have a rewarding and pleasurable relationship with him that the age gap doesn’t seem to affect, at least from my perspective.
Over the past 12 months I have turned my health around by following a strict but healthy keto diet. I’ve given up alcohol. sugar, grains and got into daily exercise. Now I’m working on sleep and anything else that will allow me to improve the condition of my body and mind and live a very long happy and healthy life. My current goal is 100 years old in good nick and waking up every morning excited about the day to come.
My purpose for creating this blog is to a) communicate with people and create a larger community of friends b) to share some of my observations about life, c) to share some of the successful actions I am taking to increase my health and wellbeing and d) to ponder on where I fit into infinity.
