Our House In Bali

In late 2018 we made our first trip back to Bali after a 10 year absence. I first visited Bali in 1983 and have been back around 15 times since then.

In 1998 I wrote a letter to Georgie with one line stating ” It certainly would be the right time to build a house across here, all you need is an Indonesian partner – I know a few prospects. If you built a dream home, which you would design of course it would be spectacular. We could rent it out as well.”

So 20 years later the fire was ignited once again and we decided to move forward and lease a property. After a couple of false starts and several more trips to Bali we found the ideal place to renovate in the village of Penestanan, near Tjampuan, just outside Ubud.

The legal work was complex and was completed in November 2019. The renovation started in December.

At the same time we leased a smaller villa in Penestanan for 12 months and set it up as a place to stay when we are there as well as a property to rent on AirBnB to get used to how it works. We also hired a wonderful staff member named Purnami who is a godsend.
