HBOT (Oxygen) Under Attack
An article appeared in the online news forum www.news.com.au this morning lambasting a man who should be receiving accolades for the work he is doing to forward good health in the community.
His name is Mal Hooper and his business Oxymed is a place that I have been receiving HBOT (Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy) since January this year, almost 9 months. I have done close to 120 hours of HBOT in this time and have spent around $20,000. Every cent of this investment has been 100% justified.
When I began my oxygen therapy I had a malignant cancer in a lymph node in my neck, now 9 months later I have been given an all clear after a recent PET Scan undertaken at Monash Medical Hospital.
I have worked and researched like a trojan throughout this period. I have done many different therapies, some mainstream, some integrative and others alternative. I have spent the dollar equivalent of the price that a decent car would cost me. This is a small price to pay for repairing my body, the vessel that transports my soul.
I have tried hard to understand all of the therapies that I have used but I admit there was also a small “faith component”. Why not. Faith is an integral part of our lives. We have faith in religions, in government, in the healthcare system. It could be argued that all of these institutions have unwittingly contributed to negative occurrences. I wonder how many people have died in hospitals due to errors made, how many homeless people have died due to inaction by our government, how many Afghan civilians have died at the hands of our troops, how many people whose dreams have been shattered by their faith in God. Unfortunately (or fortunately) part of being a human being involves trusting others.
Earlier this year I had 33 sessions of radiotherapy at Epworth Hospital in Richmond. Every morning after the radiation therapy I would head down Chapel St to Oxymed for a 90 minutes session of HBOT. The nurses at Epworth scratched their heads when I had virtually zero side effects from my radiation. Zilch. I felt full of energy, healthy and unaffected. I was never depressed, never negative and overall full of life and hope.
I was shocked and disgusted to see an ad for the TV series Dr Death that appeared in the body of today’s article that attempted to assassinate Malcolm’s character and intentions. I wondered what gave the right to the journalist to write the article, what her motivations were. I wondered why she would want to contribute to potentially taking away access to a treatment that is based on oxygen, not some insidious chemical produced in a pharmaceutical factory that has potential lethal effects like some of the mainstream medicines that are prescribed by GPs daily. It was only a couple of weeks ago when I read an article that started that the TGA offered their condolences to a family of a person who died after having the Astra Zeneca vaccination.
The way I see it good and bad is governed by a person’s intentions. If they intend harm then their actions are evil. If on the other hand they intend to help, to nurture, to support then their actions should be considered to be good and caring.
We live in a society which tends to follow the leader. The status quo has a lot of power and usually a lot of money and resources to make minority groups and individuals look bad. It takes a lot of courage to stick to your convictions. How many people have been imprisoned, tortured and punished over the centuries only to be vindicated much later and lauded for their courage, insight and conviction to not give up in the face of oppression and to contribute positively to the forward progress of mankind?
From where I stand, Malcolm Hooper has good intentions and good results and should be supported in his efforts to help mankind, not attacked as is happening now.
