Somebody giving help
My Philosophical Journey Through Life

Help

Some of us love helping while some of us find it difficult to accept help, maybe because we don’t feel worthy of having somebody else giving up their own valuable time.

Some of us fall into both of these categories.

Isn’t it obvious? It’s just a matter of opening up your eyes to look at the simple fact that people who do help usually do it because they enjoy some aspect of seeing another person do a little bit better. It gives them a kick. Now that’s not always the case but let’s keep it simple for now and travel down one road at a time.

There’s the old saying “ Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day ……”. How true that is. How simple it is to get behind somebody and give them a push without them contributing to the motion. But alas, this is a recipe for disaster and a road that leads nowhere.

Help is a condition of existence, just one of many.

Whether you are giving help or accepting it, my reality is that is is part of a transition. A wayside stop on a journey to a willingness to accept that improvement comes from a willingness to see that things can only get better due to increased knowledge, responsibility and control.

But what comes first?

Is it the quality of the kindling that you use to start the fire or is it the big logs that keep it burning that matters? I’ve never looked at it in those terms before and it makes sense. I actually had a small moment of enlightenment when those words flowed out. Maybe I should look at myself as the kindling, just enough to inspire somebody to keep the fire burning, tending it themselves. Yes, that sounds good. It also means that I can start many fires that can then hopefully keep burning.

Sure, some of the fires will go out but others will turn into raging blazes that create so much energy that I might even get some back for myself.
