The New Cultural Revolution
Georgie and I watched a new movie on Netflix last night called “Don’t Look Up”. Some people may look upon it as a slightly comedic disaster movie but in the light of mankind’s current response to the Covid pandemic it took on a darkness that resounded with potential lack of hope for the human species. Another movie that we watched recently which was called “Silent Night” also shone a bright light on what can happen when large segments of society comply with the “experts”. I am beginning to hate that word when it is used generically without naming who the experts are, what their credentials are and what scientific papers or modelling that they are basing their expert opinions on.
Maybe some smart teacher should package up these 2 movies with a few David Attenborough documentaries to educate students in the early years of their life.
I’m starting to view what is happening in our society as straight forward evil. Initially I had thought that our common reaction to the pandemic may have been based on incompetence and panic but as I uncover more and more data the truth is looking insidious. Well intentioned scientists, PHDs, researchers and doctors are being maligned and cancelled by social media platforms, their peers, politicians and the watchdogs of big pharma. The strategy is so obvious that it hurts. This is exactly the same rule book that all despotic political leaders, cult figures and big business/law have used as far back as I can find. You just have to study Mao’s Cultural Revolution to see what happens when you cancel dissent and any criticism, no matter how well meaning it may have been.
Our modern western society has fought hard over the past couple of hundred years to be able to embrace freedom of speech, varied opinions, debate, questioning of other pathways and beliefs. This open discussion ferrets out the psychotics, heretics, vested interests and purveyors of generalities and downright lies. It lays bare the facts, often from both sides, so they can be analysed and tested.
The way we are operating as a society right now puts this open debate into imminent danger. The horrible thing is that a large percentage of people are falling for it. Not only that but many are applauding it. Their new weapon is the word “mis-information”, a magic word that has evolved over the past couple of years that has the same power that the word “communist” had back during the years of the Cold War. All you need to do is to call a person a purveyor of mis-information and they are pretty much instantly cancelled.
I weep for mankind. I cry tears of despair wondering how so many people have been captured by the manipulation of big tech media, big pharma and politicians who are teetering on the brink of being comedians or even worse lackeys under the control of the new powers that be.
Maybe I’m just a cynic. Maybe I am out of step with the new reality that has taken hold. Maybe I am wrong and censorship and suppression of discussion is the way to go. You can call me what you want but I am holding on to my own reality as much as I am intellectually and ethically able.
I am trying hard to remain compassionate toward my fellow humans. People in Australia seem to be obsessed with testing for Covid, which for all I know could be the right thing to do and are being ripped off by the private sector and being forced to pay extravagant prices for the Rapid Antigen Test that are now making millions for their manufacturers. I have no doubts that this Omicron variation of Covid still hits hard but all signs point to the fact that the chances of dying from it are greatly decreased. I’m hoping that my immediate family and myself can escape a bad dose, as we have so far. We are certainly taking as many precautions as possible and have a very strict Covid prevention regime which we follow religiously and daily. As yet none of us have needed to be tested.
