Current Goals and Actions That Can Get the Ball Rolling

I could kick myself at times. It seems that the hardest things to remember are pretty much always the most simple and unfortunately, the most important.

Having a clear and simple statement of your goals is a pretty important part of your life yet at the same time it’s easy to just float inanimately in a day to day done with the occasional adventure or surge in enthusiasm.

It’s as simple as saying what the meal is that you are going to prepare or the destination that you want to reach. My problem is that I get distracted along the way or something happens when I’m making the meal that inspires me to change the whole bloody recipe.

I know that I have decided that I would like to live a healthy, fit and happy life until I am at least 100. I also know that I need a substantial amount of money to do this successfully and possibly the most important part of it all is that I want to enjoy every minute of this time doing the things that I love doing.

These goals run in the background, every now and again rising to the surface but me being me it is so easy to become distracted and go off on tangents or simply go on automatic.

So my project this morning is to break down these goals and take a clearer look at them as well as delineating what I have to be, do and have to achieve them.

There is no point allowing myself to be broke because this will constrict my freedom to do those activities that will make my life fulfilling. Equally there is no value in allowing myself to become unhealthy, unfit and incapable of physically enjoying the next 30 years being active and having freedom of movement and physical and mental health. There also needs to be a worthwhile purpose for being alive which should include being of some service to others, even if it is simply inspiring a few people to pursue health and happiness.

The first thing I need to define is my overall goal. I’ll give it a go now but it may need refining or further clarity.

“My overall goal is to live a fulfilling and healthy life, maintaining financial independence until I am at least 100 years old. I will achieve this by engaging in activities that bring me joy, such as continuous learning, writing, cooking nutritious meals, creating beauty, enjoying and creating music, exercising regularly, exploring new places through travel, and nurturing and strengthening my relationships with Georgie, Finn, Allissa, as well as my friends, family, and the people I meet along the way. To achieve this, I will strive to be authentic to myself, embracing my true essence.”

Well and good. That is what I would like to have. Now to break it down into doable chunks of actions and sub-goals that will help me achieve the overall goal.

I am currently in relatively good health. I also have travel under control for the time being or at least until the end of October this year. I write every day and I am striving to improve this skill and I am also creating music, albeit digital music. I am quite content with my relationships with those closest to me although they could be improved and I have the ability to make new friends when I choose to as well as occasionally inspiring others. I came back from Europe with a heap of inspiration to create beautiful spaces in our home and garden, my cooking skills are pretty good but can be improved by learning new skills and techniques.

It looks like the areas that I need to put some attention on are creating wealth and improving knowledge. That sort of feels right but the question is how do I use my skills and improve my knowledge of making money so I can turn this into a reality using all of the successful areas of my life and to delineate and overcome the obstacles that lie in my way that may thwart my forward progress.

Let’s look at the facts.

  1. We currently have no real reserves of money. Our income sources are our villa in Bali, selling the occasional print and painting, my pension and some peripheral income that Georgie makes from our percentage of AirBnB’ing Red Hill.
  2. We can survive on a minimal amount of money mainly due to the fact that we are quite frugal and that I cook most of our meals but our expenses include a relatively large mortgage on our home (interest rates are increasing) as well as the overall utility expenses, costs to run our websites, apps and online activities as well as phones, vehicle costs although we got rid of our Lexus earlier this year and only have the van now, house and car insurance and general maintenance costs.
  3. The villa in Bali is creating a relatively small but decent money flow and overall the bookings are pretty good.
  4. We know that we have the skill and ability to create more villas in Bali and to rent them out, thus making money but do not necessarily have the wherewithal to do this. Georgie has expressed interest in doing this.
  5. We have a large amount of stock and art left over from our gallery but a lot of it is damaged. Our Tusk Gallery and Artscope websites are still active but are not making any real sales.

F) I have a love of learning but I have an aversion to do any formal courses.

G) I have the raw basics of a book that I have started writing based on my cancer experiences during 2020-2022. This has a small amount of potential to become something that could create an income stream.

H) I have a blog that I contribute to each day. This gets found by a few people and possibly has some potential to market what we do.

It looks like there is a certain amount of self doubt and personal invalidation that gets in the way of both Georgie and my abilities and as such thwarts our potential to ring our own bells and let the world know what we can do.

That’s enough of that. What I need is some actions that we can do to get the money flows opened up.

  1. Talk to Georgie about how serious she is about actually doing more villas in Bali. Float the idea of investing the reserves money to rent a small villa that we can set up and start renting out on an immediate basis.
  2. Start learning Bahasa so we can communicate to balinese people better.
  3. Get the Bali villa set up as potentially 2 villas so we can rent it out for 2 people as well as larger groups.
  4. Get the Pondok Wisata sorted out with our Balinese lawyer.
  5. Work out any ways we can that will help us communicate to our guests and future potential guests about Villa Tusk.
  6. Follow up on any current potential sales that we might be able to make from Tusk Gallery and Artscope.

OK. That’s a start. I can’t afford to get bogged down and that feels like it’s starting to happen so I’ll wrap this up for today.
